Liverpool Transfer News: Ornstein Shares Latest on Alexander-Arnold's Potential Real Madrid Move

Renowned journalist David Ornstein has said Real Madrid have not yet reached an agreement with Liverpool academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold. According to Ornstein, the delay is due to the two parties’ inability to sit down and formally hash out a deal.

Liverpool’s first-choice right-back Alexander-Arnold will become a free agent at the end of June 2025. According to reports, the Merseysiders have been trying to tie him down to a new contract for a while, but still have not had a breakthrough.

The England international is a fan favourite and understandably does not want his contract news to dominate headlines, especially when Liverpool have an excellent chance of winning their 20th English title. Hence, he has carefully side-stepped questions about his future at the club.

Many European powerhouses are keeping a close eye on Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation, but according to reports, Real Madrid are the outright favourites to secure his services. Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham is one of Alexander-Arnold’s closest friends, and the Englishman has reportedly been doing his best to convince him to move to the Spanish capital.

David Ornstein: Liverpool Star Trent Alexander-Arnold Has N0t Officially Given the Green Light to Real Madrid

Spanish outlets have long been calling this a done deal, but Ornstein believes all options — including the one to stay with Liverpool — remain open for Alexander-Arnold.

Discussing Alexander-Arnold’s future, Ornstein said on NBC Sports:

That is the consensus within the industry, it would seem, and certainly reports in Spain suggest that Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid is getting closer.

My information is that nothing is decided just yet, and so we need to bring a bit of calm to the situation. All options remain open and that’s largely because his camp has not been able to hold any formal negotiation yet. They cannot do that until January 1st, but that’s very soon.”

Since making his debut in the 2016-17 season, Alexander-Arnold has played 333 games for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 20 goals and providing 85 assists. He has won one Premier League title, one UEFA Champions League trophy, and one FA Cup with the club, among other honours.
