Liverpool star spotted in first-team training despite Jurgen Klopp loaning him out

Liverpool star Calvin Ramsay has returned for pre-season training despite agreeing to spend the year on loan at Preston.

The young full-back joined the Reds last summer but has found minutes hard to come by, leading to a spell away which will hopefully aid his development. Trent Alexander-Arnold remains ahead of him in the pecking order which has forced Ramsay to seek pastures new for now.

Ramsay, who has struggled with injury, is currently training with his parent club however after being spotted at their Kirby-training base. The teenager is set to begin his pre-season with Liverpool, allowing them to monitor his recovery, before heading to Deepdale.

Last term the young Scot made just two appearances but should get far more exposure at Preston, where Liverpool have previously allowed youngsters to head on loan. Sepp van den Berg spent a season at the club, playing regular football.

The hope now is that Ramsay, who moved to Anfield from Aberdeen, will flourish at the Championship outfit. Upon signing he said: “I’m delighted to join Preston North End. The Championship is a top league as everyone knows and the main thing for me is trying to get game time, and I’m going to be able to do that at a good club. I can’t wait to get started.

“I’m happy to be getting the opportunity to get regular game time in a good league, which is important for me. I just need to work hard and try to play as many games as I can.

“There were quite a few clubs interested, but when I spoke to the manager (Ryan Lowe), everything that he said was spot on. The way the team plays, they like to play attacking football, keep the ball and get forward. I think that suits my game because I can score and assist goals, and I like getting at people. Ultimately Preston suited me the best."

Liverpool have been able to bring in some major names so far this summer as they look to recover from last season. Throughout the campaign, midfield was cited as a problem area and Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have both been signed for around £100m.

More arrivals are expected on Merseyside whilst Alexander-Arnold' continues to be talked about as a future midfielder, a position he began to occupy in the final weeks of last season. That could yet open the door for Ramsay to secure a long-term future as Liverpool's right-back.
