Liverpool sent reminder as new injury blow emerges after transfer target left on crutches

The transfer window is open, rumours are bubbling away and football clubs face a barrage of pressure from supporters to strengthen their squads in the hope of an improved season.

This is no different for Liverpool who, after an underwhelming campaign, are looking to rejuvenate their squad in serval departments following the departures of long-serving stars such as Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner.

While World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister has joined the club from Brighton, it is expected that Jurgen Klopp and Co will continue to conduct a lot more business this summer.

Of those to have been linked with a potential move to Anfield in recent weeks, several significant names are currently participating at the European Under-21 Championship in Romania and Georgia.

Ryan Gravenberch, Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone, Gabri Veiga, Levi Colwill and Micky van de Ven have been, particularly, linked with the Reds this summer.

It is understandable as to why fans are so desperate to see their team complete transfers imminently, especially when other clubs are sure to be chasing some of Europe's best young talents, though it must be remembered that no deal will be officially complete until the European Under-21 Championship is complete.

And there is a good reason as to why, as shown by an injury to Crystal Palace attacker Michael Olise, who is set for three months on the sidelines after tearing his hamstring during France Under-21s' 1-0 win over Norway last Sunday.

And France were further rocked on Wednesday night when Kone - who is said to be on the list of midfielders Liverpool are monitoring - was left on crutches after sustaining a knee injury during their 4-1 victory over Switzerland.

The jubilation and celebration that is bound to greet any potential transfer that the Reds complete would soon turn into frustration if a player was to suffer such a serious injury after signing a contract. Money well spent would quickly turn into a waste.
