Liverpool sent 'options' warning by Bayern Munich transfer chief over Sadio Mane

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has suggested the German giants are willing to walk away from negotiations with Liverpool over Sadio Mane.

The Bundesliga champions have had two bids rejected for the Liverpool attacker, who has 12 months left on his contract at Anfield. The ECHO understands the Reds are expecting Bayern to lodge a third, improved bid for Mane in the coming days as they hold out for nearer £42.75million for the Senegalese international.

But in an apparent attempt to soften Liverpool's stance and keep the upper hand, Salihamidzic has claimed Munich are looking at 'several' other players to improve an attack that could be losing Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry this summer.

"Of course we can't rely on one option to strengthen our attack," Salihamidzic said when asked about targets outside of Mane. "We must have several options."

He added: "Generally speaking, we're trying to strengthen our team. We're working on several options in attack. The transfer market is not easy, it always depends on the financial possibilities of the club. I don't want to talk about players of other clubs."

Liverpool are closing in on Benfica's Darwin Nunez for 64.1m (€75m) in a set fee, with a possible £12.8m (€15m) in appearance-related add-ons and £8.5m (€10m) depending on team success.
