Liverpool sent blunt Jude Bellingham transfer warning as Naby Keita approach dismissed

Liverpool have been warned to stop delaying their pursuit of Jude Bellingham and wrap up a deal for the Borussia Dortmund star this summer.

The 19-year-old midfielder has proven his undoubted ability since swapping Birmingham City for the Bundesliga in 2020, resulting in persistent transfer interest in the teenager. Jurgen Klopp's side are one of the teams who continue to be linked with Bellingham and the ECHO understands the Reds are strong admirers of the youngster.

Liverpool were among a number of clubs keen on Bellingham before he moved to Dortmund for £22.75m two years ago, though are not expected to make any progress over a deal this summer due to the German giants already cashing in on one of their key players.

Erling Haaland's departure follows last year's exit Jadon Sancho and there is a growing expectation that Bellingham could be the next Dortmund star to seal a Premier League switch. Rumours have emerged suggesting Liverpool could attempt to strike a similar agreement to that of Naby Keita, finalising a deal in principle this summer and the player moving at a later date.

Former Reds defender Glen Johnson believes there should be no waiting around to sign the talented youngster, however, and would like to see action taken now. "You’d usually operate a transfer like that with young players if they’re currently not good enough to get into your team," he told GGRecon when quizzed on a potential 2023 move being lined up this year.

"Jude could improve Liverpool’s team now. I see pros and cons for that sort of deal because Jude will have half an eye on Liverpool if they sign him before he leaves Dortmund.

"Of course, he would remain professional and do what he has to do for Dortmund but it would almost be impossible to not focus on your new club. If you’re going to spend the money then do the deal now because he’s good enough to play now anyway."
