Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino has signalled his failed “dream” of going to the World Cup having been left out of Brazil ’s squad for the tournament.
The Reds forward has been in electric form this season with eight goals and four assists in just 19 matches in all competitions. However, that was not enough to convince Selecao head coach Tite as he named his squad for the upcoming tournament in Qatar. The likes of Arsenal ’s Gabriel Jesus, Vinicius Jr and Neymar were all preferred, with 55-time international Firmino a surprise omission as the squad was announced.
Since the announcement, the Liverpool star has now penned his response, signalling his disappointment but also expressing his gratitude having previously played at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Taking to Instagram, he said: “Passing by to thank you for all the messages of affection. The World Cup is a dream for all players and with me it would be no different.
“Yesterday things didn't turn out as I imagined or dreamed for my life, but I can look back and have a heart that is grateful to God for having already allowed me to live this dream like so many others.
“You, Lord, will keep him in perfect peace whose purpose is steadfast, because he trusts in you. (Isaiah 26:3). I would like to take this opportunity to show my respect and congratulate all those called up.
"It was, is, and will always be an honour to defend my country especially with the gift that the Lord has given me. I remain here confident that God has the best for me and rooting for the hexa to come.

“For I know the plans I have for you,' says the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11) #JesusYouareenough.”
Whilst Firmino has been left out, one of the Liverpool man’s Premier League colleagues, Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli, has done enough to earn a spot in the squad for Qatar. Tite has explained exactly why the Gunners youngster has been included with less than two weeks until the World Cup gets underway.
He said: “We like Martinelli's aggressiveness. He’s one of the top players at Arsenal, the first placed in the Premier League. He’s good on one-vs-ones, very rapid in transitions, he’s been keeping a good level."
Brazil get their latest World Cup campaign underway against Serbia before further group clashes against Switzerland and Cameroon and will hope to do enough to book their place in the last-16.
