Liverpool's reluctant transfer strategy under the spotlight as injuries mount

Liverpool will once again be looking to mount a title challenge after pushing Man City all the way last season. The Reds have, however, kept their transfer business to a minimum.

The few fresh faces at Anfield are sure to boost the squad’s spirits and hopefully trophy chances to boot. But the recent injuries to Thiago Alcântara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have shown the drawbacks to a quiet transfer window.

The exit of Sadio Mané to Bayern Munich was a potential blow to the squad, but freed up some cash for Klopp to sign a new generation of players. The Senegal international was key to Liverpool ’s recent success, flourishing alongside Mo Salah in the Reds' attack.

Liverpool set their sights on a replacement immediately, landing a £67m deal with Benfica’s Darwin Núñez who has since stamped his mark on the Red’s offensive line. It remains to be seen if Núñez is a like-for-like replacement for Mané, but the results are looking positive so far.

Just behind Núñez, Fábio Carvalho is another new arrival at Anfield. The midfielder is a graduate from Fulham ’s academy and looks hungry for success under Klopp. After Thiago's injury against Fulham, Carvalho could become a more important player sooner than ever.

And the even-younger Calvin Ramsay was signed from Aberdeen early in the window. The 18 year-old arrived at Anfield injured in July but coaching staff are excited to see how the right-back develops.

Also leaving Anfield was Neco Williams. The 21 year-old will surely be one to watch this season for Nottingham Forest. The right-back had been a consistent understudy to Liverpool’s back-line, and may be a sale the club regrets. Takumi Minamino is another reliable player management traded off, with the winger travelling to Monaco for the coming season.
