Liverpool’s most popular takeaway dish named and it may surprise you

Delivery food service Deliveroo has named Liverpool’s most popular takeaway dish and the results are interesting.

The on-demand food service is celebrating turning five in Liverpool, and has shared our local eating habits in honour of the birthday. Data shows that Saturday night at 7:15pm is the most popular time that locals prefer to stay at home with a takeaway, and there are some favourite meal choices amongst locals.

It seems that we as a city can’t get enough of Japanese food, with Chicken Katsu Curry from Kokoro being the most popular dish in town. The Japanese restaurant Kokoro on Church Street scooped the first prize.

The Katsu curry is described on the Kokoro website as one of the "most popular items available" and includes panko breaded chicken thigh paired with curry sauce, offered on a base of either steamed rice or noodles. Bagging second place is a classic Bacon Cheeseburger from Five Guys.

In third place is a Cha Siu Bao from Yum Cha on Lark Lane, the Cantonese barbecue-pork-filled bun seems to be a hit in the city for foodies. In fourth place is a Chicken Royale from Burger King and number five is a Chicken Gyros from Grilla.

Since its launch in the city, more than 780 restaurants have signed up to the platform. Deliveroo has supported local businesses in Liverpool, with 60% percent of its restaurant partners being local independent restaurants, creating new revenue for homegrown culinary talent.

Ben Lacey, Deliveroo Regional Director for the UK and Ireland, said: “Our whole team here at Deliveroo are delighted that our rapid growth in Liverpool over the past five years means that customers have more choice, restaurants are able to increase their revenue, and riders have the opportunity to choose well-paid, flexible work.”
