Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp confirms Trent Alexander-Arnold set for lengthy injury layoff

Liverpool will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold for several weeks after Jurgen Klopp confirmed the right-back had sustained a hamstring injury.

The Reds boss said: "Trent is out with a hamstirng, so will be out for England too. Not good news, we will see how long it takes. Mo felt his foot a little bit after the game too." Klopp went on to say that Alexander-Arnold's injury would keep him out for "weeks" as the team attempt to continue their title charge.

The right-back played in Liverpool's 2-0 win at Arsenal in midweek, which takes them to within a point of league leaders Manchester City.

Alexander-Arnold is often a shining light for the Merseyside outfit, played a key role in their attacks. The Liverpool boss has previously bemoaned the demands placed upon his players, especially given the amount of games his side play. The Reds are still in contention for a unique quadruple and the German has again aired his issues.

He said: "We need some luck [with injuries]. We rest here and rotate there and we can make it more likely players can come back easier. Five subs is essential. Scotland plan 6 friendlies this summer. Some of it for money reasons. I understand that..."

Alexander-Arnold's absence will force Klopp to seek solutions on the right hand side of his defence. James Milner has previously filled in when required whilst Joe Gomez, who has reportedly frown frustrated at his lack of minutes, is also a possibility. The Reds boss said: "We will see how it will take. To replace him is difficult but possible. We have Milner, Gomez, these kind of things. Trent is so influential but Milner has done incredibly well in the past. We'll see how Milly is for Sunday. Maybe a young solution?"

Liverpool's attention this weekend turns to FA Cup matters - a tournament they have not won since 2006. Klopp is yet to make inroads in the competition, but did win his first domestic cup recently as the Reds saw off Chelsea at Wembley. They will now be eyeing another piece of silverware as they take on Nottingham Forest.

Changes are expected to be made as they take on the Championship outfit, who have already seen off Arsenal and Leicester City this week. Klopp knows that the task won't be easy but hinted at personnel changes. He said: "I want a team in Nottingham who are mentally and physically ready. We will be PL team No.4 they've faced so they have not had it easy so far. Our former LFC coach (Steve Cooper) is doing a proper job there. If we rotate, it's just to have the best team possible."
