Liverpool's deadline day business could nudge Roberto Firmino in transfer direction

Liverpool's transfer business late on in the summer window may have nudged Roberto Firmino's future towards Italy as the forward is in the final year of his contract at Anfield.

Firmino was reportedly the subject of plenty of interest from clubs during the transfer window, most notably from Juventus, but Liverpool rebuffed all pursuers as they kept hold of their number nine for at least another season.

Despite being in fine goalscoring form at the moment, Firmino's future at Liverpool remains unclear with talk of a new contract being offered having died down in the opening weeks of the season.

As he is in the final year of his contract, Firmino can agree a pre-contract with a foreign side once January arrives - something Juventus have history with themselves. The Italian giants reportedly offered £19 million for the forward in the summer.

Firmino reiterated his desire to stay at Liverpool after the Reds beat Manchester City 3-1 in the Community Shield as he told TNT Sports: "I love this team, this city and the fans. I'm here. I want to stay, of course."

Liverpool and Juventus now have an open line of communication after the Reds signed midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan deal from the Serie A club on deadline day.
