Liverpool host Real Madrid at Anfield in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with the club's supporters divided with their opinions on the current state of the atmosphere at home games.
There has been numerous comments, and intense debate, on an article by ECHO writer Richard Garnett where he claimed Anfield's atmosphere needs to change and acknowledged at the same time that he was part of the problem.
During a season which has largely been one of struggle for the Reds the atmosphere at home games has certainly come under closer scrutiny. On poster called LFCrule feels the advancing age of supporters reluctant to give up tickets has hindered the vibe in the ground.
They wrote: "The real problem with Anfield is energy. There is very little natural energy. The Kop's average age is about 50. Lots of tired looking old fellas. Many bail on 80/85 to get the pub. The match is a habit rather than a passion for them now."
Venny1 felt the rise of technology has changed the matchday experience. "Just look around and see how many peeps are on their Mobile phones not interested in the match one bit," they posted.
Rapidexit lamented what it will be like for future generations who "will never understand" how good the atmosphere was in the old days and "can never experience the buzz we had because it is long gone". Another poster added: "Most Premier League stadiums are like this now," .

Kopitelcubo believes Anfield "is different now, and we cant go backwards. But we do have many special days and nights. Especially the 4-0 Barca game".
The debate about the passion of fans from outside the city compared to those from Liverpool also inevitably reared its head.
"Barring the odd domestic night game and most European nights the atmosphere has been dead since the mid 2000s," wrote Speakingsense1. "It was already a tourist haven and daytrippers thing before Istanbul. Istanbul accelerated it massively.
"In hindsight Istanbul and the way we won it was the worst thing that could ever happen to the normal local Liverpool fan."
BigPete8 offered a counter view and said it was an "an easy excuse" to blame out of towners. "For me it’s changed because football has changed and the social media age is making people go to the match for a photo op," they wrote.
"Plus I’ve seen Norwegian lads sing for 90 mins solid against Southampton. So please don’t have a go at the outsiders too much it’s not always them."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, is hopeful the fans are able to generate the kind of Anfield atmosphere which has intimidated opponents and given belief to those wearing a red shirt on Tuesday night against Real Madrid.
"I expect Anfield on their toes," Klopp said. "To be honest. I'm really happy for the people that they saw us in a better shape in the last two games, that they have a bit more things to look forward to. And yeah, let's go together again.
"Our people are football people and Real Madrid are in town, [so] celebrate this kind of event in the best possible way, how we did it over the last years. I can't wait for them as well to enjoy that. "
