Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in world football with an incredible history of breaking records.
The Reds’ legacy spans over a century, and throughout the decades they have set the benchmark for success.
There have been times when the Reds have not been at the height of their powers. Many felt the Reds could be on for another decline when Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp.
However, it’s so far so good for the Dutchman, with Liverpool five points clear at the top of the Premier League.
They are gunning for their 20th league title – which would level the record set by Manchester United in 2012-13.
There are several records though where Liverpool are well and truly top of the pile and are unlikely to be matched for many years to come.
Here, Sportscast takes a look at some of those records.
Records Held By Liverpool That Are Unlikely To Be Matched
Most European Cups Held By Any English Club – 6
Liverpool have a love affair with the European Cup – now known as the Champions League – winning it four times between 1977 and 1984.
Their most famous triumph came in the ‘Miracle of Istanbul’ in 2005 against a brilliant AC Milan side. The Reds came from 3-0 down to win on penalties.
They then added the trophy a sixth time with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham in 2019. Manchester United hold more league titles but they need to win the Champions League three more times to match Liverpool.
📅 #OTD in 2005, Liverpool became European champions for the 5th time after THAT game in Istanbul 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

Most Consecutive Premier League Home Wins – 24
The longest-ever winning run at home in the Premier League belongs to Jurgen Klopp’s famous Liverpool side.
The run began with a 3-0 win over Bournemouth in April 2018 during a season where the Reds finished just one point behind Manchester City.
It was in July 2020 – in the middle of the Covid pandemic – when the newly crowned champions Liverpool next failed to win at Anfield in the league with a 1-1 draw against Burnley.
Most Away Goals Scored In A Premier League Season – 48
The 2013-14 season will always be considered the title that got away for Liverpool as Brendan Rodgers’ side famously just missed out to Manchester City.
It was a campaign where they scored goals for fun thanks to the likes of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
Their total of 48 away goals beat the previous record set by Manchester United (47) during the 2001-02 season.
Most U21 Academy Players To Feature In A Cup Final – 6
Last season’s Carabao Cup final was described by Gary Neville as ‘Klopp’s kids vs the billion pound bottle jobs’.
Liverpool beat Chelsea 1-0 with a Virgil van Dijk goal in a game where the Reds played six U21 academy players.
That list included; Conor Bradley, Harvey Elliott, Bobby Clark, James McConell, Jayden Danns and Jarell Quansah.

Most Points Without Winning The Title Record – 97
This one will hurt Liverpool fans but sums up how close the 2018-19 title fight was.
However, Liverpool’s 97 points that season is a record unlikely to be broken.
If Liverpool beat Manchester City at the Etihad that season, they would have won the Premier League and Champions League double, while also finishing the season unbeaten and as centurions. Rival fans will forever be relieved for Man City’s 2-1 win.
Least Number Of Players Used Over An Entire League Season – 14
In modern football it almost feels like teams need enough players to fill out two full teams.
So it is crazy to think that in the 1965-66 season, Liverpool managed to win their seventh league title despite only using 14 players all season.
Nine of those players featured in at least 40 out of the 42-game season.
Most Points Secured Over Rolling 38 League Games – 110
Manchester City have the most points in a season outright – with the 100 they notched up in the 2017-18 season.
But over a rolling 38-game period, Liverpool managed 110 points out of a possible 114 between their 5-0 win over Watford in February 2019 and their 2-1 win over West Ham a year later.
The only times they dropped points were in a goalless draw against Everton and a 1-1 draw against Manchester United.
Record Of Clinching Title With Games To Spare – 7
Liverpool were dominant in 2019-20 and broke the record for winning the title with the most games to spare.
The Reds did so with seven games left to play – after Chelsea beat Manchester City in a thrilling contest.
It is a record that will be tough for even the most dominant of sides to overcome.
