Liverpool 'ready to offer' defender in transfer package for £61m midfielder

Liverpool are being linked with a move for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Reds continue to be linked with the potential signing of a new midfielder, after a summer which saw the club persistently credited with an interest in possible targets. In the end, a deal was struck to bring in Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus.

Milinkovic-Savic is the latest player to be tipped as a possible target for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Reports from Italy are suggesting that a deal could be done next year.

According to Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato , Liverpool are assessing the possibility of signing Milinkovic-Savic next summer. It has been claimed that the Reds are keen on the idea of bringing the 27-year-old to Anfield.

Milinkovic-Savic’s current deal with Lazio is due to expire in 2024, meaning he would have just 12 months remaining by the time next summer rolls around. It’s this reason, the article claims, that could see the Serie A club consider a deal to let their star midfielder leave.

Juventus are also being credited with an interest in Milinkovic-Savic. However, the report also states that Liverpool could consider a swap deal in order to sign the midfielder.

The article says that Liverpool may offer Joe Gomez in a part-exchange deal to sign Milinkovic-Savic, who is thought to be valued at around £61.5million. With Gomez added on, the report claims, it could see Lazio’s asking price reduced by a half in next summer’s transfer window.

Gomez only signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool earlier this summer, which extended his stay at Anfield until 2027. Given this fact, you would think it’s unlikely that the club would actively look to part ways with the centre-back after such a commitment.
