Liverpool player ratings vs Real Madrid: Mohamed Salah frustrated in Champions League final defeat

Liverpool were frustrated by Real Madrid as they lost a second Champions League final in four years, both times against the Spanish giants.

Here’s how James Robson rated the players on show in Paris...

Alisson 6

Perhaps fortunate when Benzama’s first half strike was ruled out. Could do nothing about Vinicius’ winner.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 7

A real threat to Real. Set up Salah for an early chance and constantly stretched Real on the right.

Ibrahima Konate 8

Really important role covering for Alexander-Arnold. One first half interception on Vinicius prevented an almost certain goal.

Virgil van Dijk 8

Forced Benzema to operate in a deeper role with a typically controlled display.

Andy Robertson 6

Wasn’t the threat he often is – but that was largely because of the outstanding Carvajal and Valverde charging forward.

Jordan Henderson 7

Helped Liverpool boss midfield in the first half. Constantly showed for the ball.

Fabinho 7

Cut out a number of potential breaks for Real when they looked to use the pace of Vincius.

Thiago Alcantara 7

There were fears before kick off he wouldn’t make it. Dictated play in the first half – but couldn’t stop Real as they began to seize more control after the break.

Mo Salah 8

Will wonder how he was on the losing side. Denied by two stunning saves from Courtois – one in each half.

Sadio Mane 7

Thought he had opened the scoring with his first half effort, only to see the remarkable Courtois push his shot onto the post.

Luis Diaz 6

Buzzed with intent early on and looked determined to make his mark on the final – but was well-controlled by the outstanding Carvajal.

Diogo Jota (Diaz, 65) 6

Gave Liverpool a different dimension and very nearly got on the score sheet.

Naby Keita (Henderson, 77) 5

Could not turn the game in Liverpool’s favour.

Roberto Firmino (Thiago, 77)

Sent on in search of a goal, but could not provide one.
