Alisson Becker 7
Held a shot from Sanchez and dealt with balls into the box first half before enjoying a rest after the break.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 6
Slow to close down for early Berghuis chance, gifted another opening with a daft pass inside and use of ball erratic. Calmed down second half.
Joe Gomez 6
Given some issues by the physicality of Brobbey and didn’t look entirely comfortable during the early stages but job made easier as Liverpool took control.

Virgil van Dijk 7
Required to mop up on occasions after mistakes by others during Liverpool’s tough opening but soon began dominating the Ajax attack.
Andy Robertson 8
Put angled drive into side-netting after a barnstorming run and provided a regular attacking threat. Corner delivery set up second for Nunez. Subbed.
Fabinho 6
Still nowhere near his best but was at least able to stick to his defensive duties for the most part. Subbed.
Harvey Elliott 7
Got through plenty of work first half and his endeavour was rewarded with a superb finish for Liverpool’s third. Subbed.
Jordan Henderson 7
Not everything came off before break, but provided thrust in midfield and superb pass set Salah away for opener. Subbed.
Mohamed Salah 8
On the periphery until class told with fine first-time finish for the all-important first goal and superb pass created Elliott’s strike.
Roberto Firmino 7
Flitted in and out of the game in opening half-hour but should have had an assist when setting up Nunez. Revelled in the extra space with Liverpool in control.
Darwin Nunez 7
Offered very little service early on and missed sitter before half-time when hitting post, but superb header for second and much livelier after break. Subbed.
Curtis Jones (for Nunez 63) 6
More welcome minutes in a more accustomed wide midfield role.
James Milner (for Henderson 71) 6
Trademark Milner outing from the bench.
Stefan Bajcetic (for Fabinho 71) 6
Great experience for the 17-year-old.
Fabio Carvalho (for Elliott 71) 6
Some nice touches on the left flank.
Kostas Tsimikas (for Robertson 87)
Good evening.
