Alisson Becker 6
Beaten by one penalty, saved another, no chance with Napoli’s second, hopelessly exposed for the third and good save deserved better than conceding the fourth.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 4
Forced a save from Meret with an ambitious free-kick and created good chance for Salah with good pass first half, but easily beaten in build-up to Napoli’s third and reluctant to mark for the fourth.
Joe Gomez 3
Read game well early on, but lost way massively when dispossessed by Osimhen for one chance and later contributed to Liverpool conceding the second and third. Subbed at half-time.

IAN DOYLE: Liverpool cannot escape painful truth at heart of dismal defeat to Napoli
Virgil van Dijk 4
Bailed out Gomez with a goalline clearance having earlier conceded a soft penalty. Header forced Meret into a save but went missing for the fourth.
Andy Robertson 6
Looked far brighter than of late and at least offered some threat down the left flank. Not his fault.
Fabinho 5
Couldn’t stem the tide of Napoli runners from midfield and was massively overworked. Having Thiago back will help.
James Milner 3
Conceded a needless penalty early on, was then booked and looked every inch his 36 years. Subbed.
Harvey Elliott 4
Showed some energy but missed chance at far post and not helped by lack of midfield cohesion. A little lightweight on occasion. Subbed.
Mohamed Salah 4
Failed to control when found by Alexander-Arnold but had one shot on turn saved. Grew increasingly frustrated and subbed.
Roberto Firmino 4
Slipped with his first touch which set the tone for an anonymous first half and didn’t improve much after that. Subbed.
Luis Diaz 7
Kept cutting infield with ever-diminishing return before break, but got it right with a fine strike just after. Later tested Meret with diving header and took some real fight to Napoli.
Joel Matip (for Gomez 46) 6
Headed a corner at Meret and added if not steel than at least some aluminium to the Liverpool rearguard.
Diogo Jota (for Salah 62) 5
A few more minutes under his belt.
Darwin Nunez (for Firmino 62) 5
Had one shot blocked but tried too many ambitious actions.
Thiago Alcantara (for Milner 62) 6
Welcome return to action after a month out.
Arthur Melo (for Elliott 76) 5
Not the debut he would have been expecting.
