Alisson Becker 5
Good save early on to deny Vinicius Jr but terrible clearance against the striker gifted Real their equaliser. No chance with any of the other goals.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 5
Involved in the build-up to the first goal and passing opened up Real on a number of occasions. Found it difficult to cope with Vinicius second half, though.
Joe Gomez 5
Possibly left Alisson a little short with the backpass for the second goal and could have got closer to Vinicius for the first. Unlucky with the deflection for the fourth. Subbed.
GET INVOLVED: Can Liverpool turn the tie around in the second leg? Answer this, and two more key questions from Tuesday's defeat, in our special poll:
Virgil van Dijk 6
Cajoled his defensive team-mates well and a couple of vital interceptions but couldn’t stem the Real tide in the second half.
Andy Robertson 6
Given plenty of freedom to push on by Real down the left wing, and superb defending denied Rodrygo before break. It meant little overall, however, but kept on going.
Fabinho 6
Linked the play well and offered himself constantly to his team-mates while shutting down Real often first half, but after break was a different story entirely.
Jordan Henderson 6
Thundered into challenges and far, far more economically energetic than at the weekend. Set the tone early on but, like his team-mates, faded badly second half. Subbed.
Stefan Bajcetic 6
Important role in the opener and a succession of good challenges and intelligent use of the ball, but lack of experience became clear after break.
Mohamed Salah 8
Terrorised Alaba – who went off – and then Nacho, created the opener for Nunez and capitalised on a bad mistake from Courtois for the second. Super first half until Real ran away with it.
Cody Gakpo 6
Kept the Real Madrid centre-backs busy and some fine touches, especially when on the turn, but not much impact after break. Subbed.
Darwin Nunez 6
Superb flick for the opener and denied another by Carvajal. Helped out defensively but didn’t quite look himself. Subbed.
Roberto Firmino (for Gakpo 64) 5
Not much impact.
Diogo Jota (for Nunez 64) 6
At least more minutes for the Portuguese.
Joel Matip (for Gomez 73) 6
Slotted in at centre-back.
James Milner (for Henderson 73) 5
Not quite the cameo he enjoyed at the weekend.
Harvey Elliott (for Bajcetic 85)
Still an ever-present this season.
