Goals from Ibrahim Konate, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz gave Jurgen Klopp's side the win in Portugal and avoiding defeat at Anfield next week will set up a tie against Spanish side Villarreal or German giants Bayern Munich - who played out a 1-0 win for the Yellow Submarines on Spanish turf.
Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery masterminded the victory thanks to Arnaut Danjuma's first-half strike.
