Liverpool's win over West Ham on Wednesday ensured they kept pace with Aston Villa in the race for the sole Europa League qualification spot.
But Hammers boss David Moyes was left furious after referee Chris Kavanagh waved away his claims for a penalty when the ball hit Thiago Alcantara on the arm. But Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted Kavanagh was correct in not pointing to the spot.
That backing came as Trent Alexander-Arnold launched a new initiative to help youngsters who have fallen out of academy football and transfer target Mason Mount posted an update on his injury issues. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Liverpool news.
Klopp hits back at West Ham penalty claims
Jurgen Klopp has insisted referee Chris Kavanagh was correct to not award a penalty to West Ham as Liverpool beat the Hammers on Wednesday. Home boss David Moyes was left furious that Kavanagh did not point to the spot after Thiago appeared to handle the ball, but Klopp backed the under-fire referee.
“I thought he just fell on the ball but I can understand Moyesy sees that probably completely different. [We] controlled the game from the beginning pretty much, made one mistake and bam – 1-0 down,” he said.
“In the end, if you look at the game, I think we are the deserved winner and that's, for me, very important,” Klopp added in his post-match comments. “If we got a point, I'm still happy with the game, not with the result – [but] now I'm happy with both.”

Alexander-Arnold launches academy initiative
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has launched a new initiative to help provide career opportunities to young footballers who are released by academies. The right-back has set up The After Academy to help those who are unable to secure a career as a player.
Just one in six players who are offered a scholarship aged 16 are still playing professional football at the age of 21. And Alexander-Arnold is hoping to help to give those that don't make it a future.
"That feeling of lifting trophies for your childhood club is magical and I wouldn’t swap it for anything in the world, but if things didn’t work out the way they did I could have been one of those being told the dream is over," the England international said in a statement.

Mount posts injury update
Liverpool transfer target Mason Mount has revealed he has undergone surgery, which will likely rule him out for the rest of the season. Mount is set to enter the final year of his contract at Chelsea, with Jurgen Klopp eyeing a move for him this summer.
"Had a minor procedure yesterday to sort out a discomfort I had for a while," he wrote. "Everything went well and I’m feeling good.
"Time to rest but can’t wait to get back to training in the coming weeks! Thanks for all your messages of support and a massive thank you to the medical team, doctors and nurses for looking after me."
