Liverpool new home shirt price going up to almost £75 as club explain rise in kit costs

Liverpool have announced a price hike for its new adult replica shirts ahead of their imminent release.

The Reds are set to unveil the new Nike home kit for the 2023/24 season, with the price for the adult stadium jersey seeing a £5 rise, the six per cent increase taking it to £74.95.

The club have frozen the prices of junior shirts (remaining £54.95) and training kit ranges, with the decision to increase the cost of the adult shirts borne from what the club describe as “rising supply chain and operational costs across all areas.”

Liverpool have cited a number of factors in the decision to increase the price of adult shirts, with the club stating that a rise in fulfilment, shipping and distribution costs has had a material impact on the club’s RRP, as has Nike’s increase in wholesale cost prices.

The club say that they have attempted to absorb much of the supply chain and operational cost rises instead of passing those on to customers who shop at the club’s retail outlets or use the Reds’ online retail platforms.

Mike Cox, senior vice president for retail and merchandising at Liverpool, said: “Rising costs are an issue across the board and no organisation is immune. We wanted to prioritise the kids kits and keep the same prices for the majority of our youth and training kit ranges for the second season in a row.

“We’ve made this decision despite facing a series of rising costs, including across manufacturing, fulfilment, shipping and distribution.

“We’re really pleased with the design of the new home kit and we can’t wait for supporters to see it.”

The club will continue to offer a 10 per cent discount off the price of the home shirt to all LFC official members and season ticket holders. This is also available for UK key workers via Blue Light and Network and students via Student Beans.

Like with many other football clubs, Liverpool have been hit with soaring costs in recent years that have stemmed from a number of different factors.

Operating costs for Anfield have risen 40 per cent five years while a 100 per cent increase in utility costs has been seen since last year, a figure that the club claim will continue to rise into next year.

Over the past five years, Liverpool's administrative expenses, the cost of running the football club annually, have increased by 70 per cent from £320m to £545m.
