Liverpool might have failed this summer if they hadn't sold Sadio Mane

It’s August 1, Liverpool’s final pre-season fixtures are boxed off and the start of the new Premier League season is firmly in sight. But, perhaps more importantly for all you transfer addicts, we’re into the final month of the summer window. Come August 31, transfer business will be done for another calendar year.

In truth, Jurgen Klopp ’s incoming business already appears to be done with the treble arrival of Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay for an initial combined fee of £73m. With plans to strengthen midfield currently on hold until 2023, that has been the case since the Reds first reported back for pre-season training on July 4.

Supporters will perhaps understandably be concerned by such a stance regarding Liverpool’ s engine room, even if it hints towards a potential future move for Jude Bellingham. Yet Klopp has repeatedly defended the options at his disposal, with the arrival of Carvalho presenting him with nine different players he can call upon in midfield this season.
