Liverpool have been busy early in the transfer window with three new additions to the club and also a number of outgoings from the winning squad. Word is that Liverpool won't be making any more incomings, but Matheus Nunes could become the fourth addition.
Jurgen Klopp has recently come out and defended the midfield options he has at Anfield, but interest in Aurelien Tchouameni earlier in the window made it clear that a midfielder could be pursued - if the deal was right for all involved.
The Frenchman moved to Real Madrid for a huge fee of around £80 million - pricing Liverpool out of any potential move. Klopp has also spoken of his admiration for Jude Bellingham, but Borussia Dortmund has warned off potential suitors with a £103m price tag. So, that leaves Nunes - Sporting Lisbon's midfielder who has attracted interest from the best clubs in Europe.

Described as lightning fast with the ball at his feet, Nunes could be someone who is different from the rest of the players Liverpool have in the midfield position. Thiago Alcantara is great and one of the best at what he does, but is aging and fits a specific profile. Fabinho is the wall in front of the defence while Jordan Henderson is the wrong side of 30 and is often run into the ground.
If there is one thing that this Liverpool side lacks it is creativity and drive from midfield. Is this something that Naby Keita could offer? It's not something we've seen in abundance. Klopp loves a settled midfield - which was evident during the Premier League winning campaign, but the players he now has at his disposal don't allow for that.
If a deal if there to be done with Sporting for Nunes, then Liverpool have to be involved. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is looking likely to stay at the club for the remainder of his contract, but he pulled up with a muscular injury in the pre-season win over Crystal Palace - showing the problem he has faced during his time in red.
Nunes' driving runs from midfield is something that could unlock teams who are defending in a low block to stifle the Reds' dangerous attack.
It is rumoured a deal could be struck with Sporting for a price of around £40million - a price that looks very good in comparison to the ones being thrown around in this day and age. At 23 years old, Nunes could become what he wanted to under the guidance of Klopp and he could help revolutionise this Liverpool side.
