Liverpool line-ups for Crystal Palace as Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota decisions made

Paul Gorst - Changes needed throughout

With a top-four place still very much up for grabs, Liverpool cannot afford to feel sorry for themselves at Selhurst Park.

If we’re able to park the 5-2 humiliation to Real Madrid then the Reds enter this one on the back of successive, morale-boosting victories in the Premier League and there is most definitely still something to chase.

Midfield-wise, this might be a good time to give Stefan Bajcetic a breather. The teenager has played a lot of football of late so it’s wise to bring him out the team for this one. I’m keeping faith with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson and giving Naby Keita a chance in south London.

Joel Matip comes in for Joe Gomez at centre-back alongside Virgil van Dijk and there’s no change in the full-back positions.

Up top, Diogo Jota makes his first start since October, leading the line with Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah either side of him. Cody Gakpo and Roberto Firmino can act as the cavalry if needed.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Keita; Salah, Jota, Nunez

MATCH BLOG: Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

Ian Doyle - Bajcetic should be taken out of the firing line

Whatever happened against Real Madrid, there were always going to be changes for Liverpool against Crystal Palace.

And I’d be making a whole load of them this evening if it was me in the Reds hotseat.

Most places would be up for grabs. Not in goal, though. That remains Alisson Becker despite his error in midweek.

Joel Matip returns at centre-back alongside Virgil van Dijk and I would be tempted to give Andy Robertson a rest and play Kostas Tsimikas at left-back. Trent Alexander-Arnold can stay at right-back.

In midfield, Stefan Bajcetic is another who can be taken out of the firing line. Fabinho played the full 90 against Real and can also have a breather. That means Jordan Henderson in the anchor role, and it’s time for Naby Keita to return also. Curtis Jones is also due a start.

Up top, more changes. Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino have waited long enough to have a go and can be on the left and down the centre respectively, with Mohamed Salah continuing on the right.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Henderson, Keita, Jones; Salah, Firmino, Jota

Richard Garnett - Defence stays in place as changes elsewhere

If you're willing to conveniently forget that Liverpool shipped five goals at home mid-week - and let me tell you, I most definitely am - then the Reds are going for a third straight win here, in the league at least.

Clean sheets are the bedrock of any decent run of form and if progress in the league is to continue today, you would imagine that a tight ship must be maintained today.

With Alisson under strict orders to continue to be Liverpool's player of the season, as opposed to his occasional turn as a Loris Karius tribute act, the big Brazillian is in the sticks.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back. Joe Gomez gets an unexpected stay of execution. The reason? Palace have pacey players and he can provide the necessary cover alongside Virgil van Dijk. Andy Robertson retains his spot at left-back.

In midfield things need a little shake-up after Tuesday night. Stefan Bajcetitc has been doing superb but could do with a rest after a humbling second half in the Champions League, but keeping the shape, in comes the reliable James Milner alongside Fabinho. Jordan Henderson can rest his legs from the start for this one, with Harvey Elliott coming in to take up the running.

Up top Liverpool have looked better in recent weeks but could probably have been calmer in front of goal at times. And for that reason, Roberto Firmino comes in to spearhead the attack, with Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah either side of him.

My team (4-3-3): Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Fabinho, Elliott, Salah, Firmino, Nunez
