Liverpool Junior International Tennis Tournament set for record numbers after paving way for Grand Slam stars

The Liverpool Junior International Tournament is set to welcome a record number participants and a brand new sponsor to the 2023 edition.

The event will take place over five weeks and has over 700 players registered from over 40 nations. Now a big stage for junior tennis, many of the world's best and brightest juniors come to compete in Liverpool.

The tournament also provides an opportunity for young local up-and-comers to test their skills against some of the best in the world. Tournament organiser Anders Borg believes Liverpool is the most important hub for junior tennis in Britain, as there are many opportunities to be taken by competitors from around the world and local competitors.

Young tennis players can gain ranking points that give them a chance to earn scholarships and play tennis in colleges in the USA , demonstrating the value to prospects in the city. Local competitor Abby Redmond, for example, won her first round at the tournament this week and gained some all-important ranking points.

The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament will also welcome a new sponsor for the competition in 2023.

Event organiser Anders Borg said: "I am very pleased Qube residential has signed as a title sponsor and supporting us for the coming years."

The Liverpool-based company's managing director David Seed says he has been attending the tournaments for some time and was exciting about the partnership between Qube and the annual showpiece.

The previous tournament held in November 2022 was a big success for Britain's young tennis players, with multiple British players emerging victorious in their respective categories.

The junior tournament has previously hosted some of the biggest stars in tennis, such as 2015 winner and former US Open winner Emma Raducanu who won the under-18s events at just 13.

Novak Djokovic - a 22-time Grand Slam winner - competed as a 17-year-old in 2015, while Neal Skupski - a two-time Grand Slam doubles winner - has been a regular at the event.
