Rumoured Liverpool target Gavi is set to extend his stay at Barcelona, according to club president Joan Laporta.
The 17-year-old midfield sensation has attracted a lot attention over the past 12 months, excelling not only in LaLiga but also on the international stage with Spain. With 12 months left on his current contract and a release clause of £42million, Jurgen Klopp's team are reportedly keen on taking advantage of Gavi's situation.
But Laporta's announcement that a new deal is close may end any chance of Gavi making the move from Spain to England, with a huge release clause set to be inserted into the new contract.

In quotes attributed to Laporta, via transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, it was said: “We are very close to reaching an agreement with Gavi to extend his contract.
“We are optimistic about the renewal of Gavi. We want him to continue at Barca”
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will make a move for a midfielder this summer. Young attacking talent Fabio Carvalho is already a done deal, with striker Darwin Nunez and full-back Calvin Ramsay set to follow soon.
