Two Liverpool players were spotted at Elland Road on Sunday as they watched Manchester United’s win over Leeds.
Midfielders Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara were in attendance to see United win 4-2 in Yorkshire, and in the process boost their own end-of-season hopes.
Plenty of supporters questioned why the pair might have been at the game, with suggestions they may have been on a scouting mission.
Liverpool face Leeds on Wednesday, with the game taking on added significance after Manchester City’s defeat to Tottenham on Saturday breathed new life into the title race.
Should Jurgen Klopp’s side pick up another victory, they will narrow the gap on the league leaders to three points with a trip to the Etihad still to come.
Not only that, but the Reds face United next month, with Ralf Rangnick’s side making the short journey to Anfield on March 20 in what could be a huge encounter for both sides’ hopes in the league this season.
Fabinho and Thiago will likely not have been too impressed with the weather that greeted them at Elland Road as the game was played in torrential conditions, although they will have learnt plenty about both of their upcoming opponents.
Their reason for watching United in action though could be much more innocent, with both players friends of the hosts’ two goalscorers on the day Rodrigo and Raphinha.
The latter of those two has been linked with a move to Anfield, with United also having been linked to the Brazilian.
Liverpool fans have speculated Fabinho and Thiago may have been there to keep a close eye on Raphinha in action, and potentially try and get ahead of United by trying to convince the forward to choose their rivals instead.
Either way, the Liverpool pair will have been thoroughly entertained as United won 4-2 in a chaotic game.
