Liverpool fans offer blunt dismissal of odd Darwin Nunez criticism from rivals

Liverpool fans have attempted to clear up some of the criticism aimed at Darwin Nunez following the defeat to Manchester United.

The Reds suffered a 4-0 loss to the Red Devils in Bangkok on Tuesday in their first pre-season fixture of the summer. Goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri settled the friendly in Thailand.

Jurgen Klopp opted to go with three separate line-ups each being handed 30 minutes of action on the pitch. New signings Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez were both given debuts, with the latter having chances to find the back of the net.

Nunez forced a save from United goalkeeper Tom Heaton, while also blazing an effort over the bar following Mohamed Salah’s shot which rebounded off the post. This led to some criticism for the striker from sections of rivals fans on social media.

Now Liverpool fans have leapt to the defence of the debutant. Here is a look at what they had to say.

CBaek: “He needs to go through an Austrian training camp.”

Malushanks95: “He’s still raw, in the sense that he needs to get used to the team and the way we play. Tbf to him, he only had two days of training with this team. People are really exaggerating his miss, he was blocked before he took the shot.”

Seasoned Entrepreneur: “One of the great things about this squad is that they can give Darwin all the time he needs to settle in and get his fitness back and be totally ok. Could see a front 3 of Diaz, Jota/Bobby and Salah and be just fine.”

Aubvrn: “Super rusty finishing but got into good positions. Not too worried about him.”

SCLFC: “Looked like a player that hasn’t played in the same system or with any of the players on the pitch. Lots and lots of times where he was pointing at a spot and the ball was never played. That’ll change as they all play together more.”

ABradley: “Picked up some good positions. His movement alone will get him plenty of goals this season.”
