In a game dominated by pre-match talk of paying homage to royalty, it was fitting that it was Liverpool's Egyptian King who had the final say.
For the second game in a row, Mohamed Salah's goal was enough to give Liverpool the three points at Anfield as they emerged from a difficult couple of assignments at home to Fulham and Brentford with back-to-back 1-0 wins.
And as tends to be the case whenever Salah scores these days, his latest strike saw him bring up a whole host of impressive new records as he went level with Steven Gerrard and into fifth in the all-time scorers list at Anfield on 186.

"It is something that makes me proud," Salah said on his latest records. "I am motivated to keep breaking record and win games for the team. I would like to score better goals than that but will take it for a very important three points."
It was the Egyptian's 30th goal of the campaign, which makes it the fourth time he has reached that milestone in six seasons at Anfield. Salah was also scoring for the ninth successive home game, which nudged him ahead of Luis Suarez and Gordon Hodgson's previous joint record that was equalled on Wednesday night. It was also the Egyptian's 100th goal at Anfield for good measure.
Klopp added: "People maybe don’t appreciate [Salah] enough. For us it is clear, I know he is proud of 30 goals, first to score in nine consecutive home goals. The numbers are outrageous."
Salah is the only king that is recognised around these parts, it seems. Well, him and Sir Kenny Dalglish, whose face was adorned on a huge flag on the Kop throughout. "Kenny is our King," the fans sang with around 25 minutes to go. Consider that a point very much made.
That, of course, was in response to the build up that centred around the Premier League's desire to have God Save the King played across all fixtures before kick-off on Saturday. To the surprise of no-one inside Anfield shortly before 5.30pm, the decision to play the national anthem went down like a concrete balloon.
Klopp named an exciting starting lineup for this one as Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota returned to a frontline also containing Darwin Nunez and match-winner Salah. The Egyptian bundled home the winner after 13 minutes when Virgil van Dijk nodded a cross to the far post where he was lurking.
Nunez should have made it 2-0 when he was put through from Alexander-Arnold's sublime clip over the top of the Bees' defence. The Uruguay international didn't get the purchase on it to trouble David Raya inside the penalty area.
Gakpo was also guilty of spurning a chance to double the advantage less than 10 minutes into the second half after a sweeping move involving Salah and Jota, but the ball struck the Netherlands international virtually on the line and somehow went wide.
Alexander-Arnold, who has been an offensive revelation in this new 'inverted full-back' role, was thwarted by Raya after a driving effort from the edge of the box as Liverpool continued to search for a decisive second. Gakpo then smashed one into the Kop after latching on to a mistake from Aaron Hickey under pressure from Salah.
In the end, a single goal was enough for Liverpool to clinch maximum points and turn the heat up on Manchester United even further after their defeat to Brighton Thursday night. Now just a point behind their fierce arch-rivals in the fight for the top four, United might be nervously anticipating their Sunday trip to West Ham even more.
The full-time whistle brought about the end to a bitty, niggly game that was characterised by constant stoppages from referee Anthony Taylor. Crucially, though, it was the battling qualities of Klopp's side that were enough to win the day against a physical Brentford side.
And after Klopp had urged the home fans last week, following the victory over Tottenham not to belt out his terrace anthem during games anymore, the Liverpool manager was visibly grateful that his message was heeded at full time as he approached the Kop with a beaming smile before literally doffing his cap in their direction. There could yet be something major to salvage for Liverpool this month.
