Liverpool fans were quick to point out how BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey seemed to forget a key Champions League rule following the Reds' brutal home defeat by Real Madrid.
Last season's finalists met once again in this competition, this time at the round of 16 stage, and it proved to be a miserable night for Jurgen Klopp's men. After going 2-0 up inside 14 minutes, Liverpool were eventually beaten 5-2 by Carlo Ancelotti's side in front of the Anfield faithful.
In years gone by, this scoreline would have been even more damaging for the Reds as Real Madrid would have boasted five away goals, meaning Liverpool would have had to have scored a minimum of four goals at the Santiago Bernabeu to stand any chance of progression.
However, governing body UEFA scrapped the away goals rule from last season's edition of the competition onwards after it had been in place since 1965. Clearly, it had slipped Humphrey's mind as he incorrectly mentioned the rule as something that will work as an advantage for Real Madrid.
And it did not go undetected as fans watching BT Sport's coverage took to social media to point out Humphrey's error.
One user wrote on Twitter: "Jake Humphrey still thinks away goals count", which prompted a direct reply that read: "Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed this. Horrendous coverage."

Another added: "Jake Humphrey hasn't been told that the away goal was abolished... last year."
While Liverpool won't have to contend with the away goals rule, it still looks incredibly unlikely that they will reach the last-eight given the mountain they will have to climb in Madrid.
After the game, Klopp conceded he harbours little hope that Liverpool will manage to pull off a miracle and eliminate the holders following the second-leg next month.
"I think Carlo thinks the tie is over - and I think it as well at the moment, but in three weeks..." Klopp explained.
"It's how it is in these moments, the closer you get to the game the bigger our chances become and the less likely it is the tie is over. Tonight, with the 5-2 and you see the game, they are pretty good in counter-attacking.
"We have to score three goals there and take some risk, so that could be a bit tricky. It is really not even in my mind. We go there, I can say it now already, and try to win the game.
"If that is possible or not, I don't know now but that's what we will try and from there we will see."
