Manchester City have reportedly joined the race to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga.
The 21-year-old is a player of interest to Liverpool after a breakthrough campaign with his boyhood club in La Liga. Veiga scored an impressive 11 league goals from midfield last season, including two against Barcelona on the final day of the season to keep his side in the division, and has emerged as a target for a number of sides.
It is understood Veiga has a release clause worth €40million (£34.4m), with interested clubs needing to trigger this in order to stand a chance of striking a deal with Celta.
One side who could now decide to take that step are City, who are believed to be keen on the youngster after abandoning a deal for West Ham captain Declan Rice. Fabrizio Romano has stated Veiga is 'one of the options' being considered by the reigning Premier League champions as they look to further strengthen their squad.
Chelsea are also pursuing the Spaniard, as confirmed by the Guardian earlier this month. The Londoners are currently in the middle of a squad rebuild and have already begun offloading a number players to free up funds and meet FFP guidelines.

Veiga is one of four Liverpool midfield targets who have been competing at the U21 European Championships, the others being Ryan Gravenberch, Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram, though was adamant on not allowing speculation over his future distract him from performing well for Spain.
Asked to clarify whether he could be on the move this summer when speaking at a press conference prior to the Euros commencing, he told reporters: “I don’t think about my future, I want to live in the present and the National Team. What I want for my future is to be in the European Championship, because there is still the final list, and then to win it. I am here in the national team, in a very nice challenge.”
