Liverpool face Naby Keita contract 'duel' as Bundesliga club linked with transfer for midfielder

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is once again being linked with a move away from the club.

The Reds star has been linked with a possible exit from Anfield frequently over the past few weeks. Keita’s current contract is set to run out at the end of the season, with no immediate sign of an extension on the horizon.

Fresh reports from Germany have claimed that a move back to the Bundesliga could be on the cards for Keita. Liverpool signed the 27-year-old from RB Leipzig back in 2018 for £52.75million.

According to Bild, via Fichajes, Borussia Dortmund are expressing an interest in signing Keita. It has been reported that the German club are keen to bring the midfielder to the Signal Iduna Park.

However, it has also been reported that Liverpool still hope to agree on a new contract for Keita. This then leads the report to suggest that there could be a “duel” for Keita between the Reds and Dortmund.

As things stand, Dortmund would be able to enter negotiations to sign Keita on a free transfer at the end of the season from January onwards. However, that would change were the midfielder to agree to a new contract at Anfield before then.

Liverpool are continuing talks with Keita over a new contract for the midfielder. The ECHO understands Liverpool have received no indication of Keita being discontent with his situation, and maintain a good relationship with the player and his representatives.
