Liverpool eye £70 million transfer for Inter striker Marcus Thuram

Liverpool are reportedly weighing up an ambitious £70 million move for Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram, as manager Arne Slot looks to strengthen the Reds’ attacking options.

Despite already boasting a formidable frontline with Darwin Núñez, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo, the Anfield club is considering Thuram as a potential addition to add depth and competition.

Klopp’s Long-Standing Admiration for Thuram

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool’s former manager Jurgen Klopp was an admirer of Thuram during his tenure and had explored the possibility of signing the French international.

Now, under Slot’s leadership, the Premier League leaders are revisiting the idea of bringing the prolific striker to Merseyside.

Thuram, 27, has been in sensational form since joining Inter Milan on a free transfer in 2023. He has scored 23 goals and provided 19 assists in 61 appearances, playing a key role in Inter’s Serie A triumph last season.

His contract with the Nerazzurri runs until 2028 but includes a release clause of €85 million (£70.9 million), making him an enticing target for top European clubs.

Thuram Happy at Inter

Despite Liverpool’s interest, prying Thuram away from Inter may prove tricky. The striker has repeatedly expressed his love for the Italian club and the iconic San Siro.

After France’s recent 3-1 victory over Italy in Milan, Thuram said, “I love this stadium, I love San Siro. The game against Italy was strange for me.

“I played against my brothers, which was very strange, but I love all of them, and I was happy to cross paths with them.”

For now, Thuram is focused on delivering another strong season with Inter, and reports suggest he is not actively seeking a move away.
