Liverpool came agonisingly close to achieving the greatest ever footballing feat this season, only to miss out on the two biggest prizes in the space of six days thus emulating Arsenal in the end.
A week ago the Reds were in the hunt to complete an unprecedented quadruple by adding the Premier League and Champions League to their double domestic cup triumph - the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup which they won by beating Chelsea via penalties after two goalless draws at Wembley Stadium.
And with Aston Villa leading at Manchester City for large periods on the final day of the Premier League season, at one stage it looked like a goal for Liverpool at home to Wolves was going to be enough for them to clinch the title for the second time in three years in dramatic circumstances.
