Liverpool Council not planning city fan parks for LFC finals

Liverpool City Council says it has no plans to organize a fan zone or fan park in the city for either of Liverpool's forthcoming cup finals.

The Reds have booked their place in the FA Cup final on Saturday May 14, where they will take on Chelsea. They will also be heading to Paris to battle Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday May 28.

It could be a glorious finale to the season for the club, who are also hoping to peg back Manchester City in a closely fought Premier League title race. An historic quadrouple remains on the cards following Liverpool's Carabao cup triumph earlier this year.

With so much excitement surrounding these huge games, we asked the city council if there were any plans to organise fan parks, fan zones or large screens for people to gather around in the city. While this isn't something the council does regularly, it did provide an organised fanzone for supporters at the Pier Head for supporters to watch England's defeat to Croatia in the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup.

The council said that it has no plans to organise any such areas over the coming weeks. Instead the local authority urged fans to support the city's hospitality venues that are showing matches after a difficult couple of years.

A city council spokesperson said: “We don’t have any plans to stage a fan zone for any Premier League, or UEFA Champions League games. After a difficult couple of years for the hospitality and leisure sector, we encourage fans to support local venues across the city which are showing the matches.”

The council will be playing much more of a role when it comes to organising a potential victory parade, if Liverpool are successful over the next few weeks. Planning is already underway for such an event.

While any details of any parade are being kept quiet at present, documents on Liverpool City Council's website show that the authority is preparing for a 'potential large scale short notice event in 2022.' A report to Friday's cabinet meeting seeks permission for Culture Liverpool to 'lead on the organisation and delivery of a potential large scale public event during 2022.'

Details of the route, timings and planned road closures ahead of such a parade are expected to be revealed soon.
