Liverpool 'consider' £31m midfielder in second Juventus transfer raid

Liverpool are being linked with a move to sign Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli.

The Reds continue to be credited with an interest in signing potential new midfielders ahead of the summer transfer window. The likes of Jude Bellingham, Mason Mount, Matheus Nunes and a host of others have been rumoured to be targets for Liverpool.

Now, according to reports from Italy, Liverpool are looking to sign Locatelli from Juventus. It has been claimed by Calcio Mercato that the Reds are showing an interest in signing the Italy international when the transfer window opens in the summer.

The report states that Locatelli has become a “pillar” of Juventus’ midfield this season, and as a result is one of their most important players. However, this is not stopping suggestions that Liverpool could make a move for the player.

It has been claimed that Locatelli is valued at around €‎35 million (£31m) this summer. The article goes on to say that departures of current midfielders within the Liverpool squad, including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner, could be a factor in the Reds’ decision making.

Locatelli signed for Juventus from Sassuolo in the summer of 2021, after helping Italy win Euro 2020. He has since gone on to make 72 appearances, scoring three goals from midfield and chipping in with five assists.

Juventus agreed a two-year loan deal for Locatelli in 2021, with an obligation to complete a permanent transfer. The fee was reportedly set at €25m (£22m) and payable over three instalments, with an additional €12.5m (£11m) in add-ons.

The Reds signed Arthur Melo on loan from the Serie A giants in the summer, although his temporary stay at Anfield has largely been ruined by injuries.
