Alexander Isak has withdrawn from the Sweden squad due to injury, Liverpool have confirmed.
Isak, who has scored four Premier League goals this season, was on target for Sweden in their Nations League win over Romania on Friday evening as he opened the scoring in the 20th minute.
While Isak was able to play the full 90 minutes at the Strawberry Arena, in Stockholm, he did not come through the fixture unscathed as he sustained a minor injury.
It remains to be seen how long the striker is sidelined for, but he will miss Sweden’s remaining Nations League games during the autumn international break against Poland, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Romania.
A Liverpool statement reads: “Alexander Isak is to return to Liverpool from international duty due to a minor injury.
“The striker will not be involved in Sweden’s three remaining fixtures in the current international break and will now be assessed by club medical staff at the AXA Training Centre.
“The Reds’ season resumes when Manchester City visit Anfield on Sunday October 11.”
Isak's withdrawal comes after Sweden boss Graham Potter suggested the Liverpool striker could start all four Nations League matches, while not playing every minute.
"It's not about rotating for the sake of rotating, as we want to win the games and try to play with our strongest team in every game," said Potter at a media conference earlier in the week.
"Alex has played a lot of games lately, is in a good place and as I know him he wants to start games, but we need to see how everyone is, how they react and recover. Can Isak start every game? Potentially yes. But there's no chance (he will) play all the minutes."
After Liverpool face Man City they travel to Austria to take on LASK in the Champions League before visiting unbeaten Brentford and then round off October with home games against Villarreal, Brighton and Chelsea.
