Liverpool coach fined and banned after heated touchline clash against Newcastle United
Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has been fined £7,000 and handed a touchline ban after being charged with breaching Football Association rules in the wake of the Reds' 2-1 win against Newcastle United last month.
Fabio Carvalho ’s 98th-minute winner prompted both sets of backroom staff to clash on the Anfield touchline, with the Dutchman caught on camera gesturing towards the Newcastle bench as Liverpool and their fans wildly celebrated the late goal.
Having admitted his behaviour was improper, and that he used abusive and insulting gestures, Achterberg has been banned, fined and warned for breaching FA rule E3. An independent Regulatory Commission has fined the Liverpool coach £7,000, banned him from the touchline for one fixture and warned him of his future conduct.
