Liverpool city centre street turned into a London Borough

A city centre street has been transformed into the London Borough of Hackney as filming is underway for a new Paramount+ drama.

A prequel to the cult 2000 film Sexy Beast, which originally starred Ray Winstone as Gal Dove, Ben Kingsley as Don Logan and Ian McShane as Teddy Bass, is currently being shot in the city. Cast members and film crews have been photographed in Rumford Street, near Moorfields Station.

Last week, the Jumbo Cafe in Anfield was transformed to look like a corner of East London for the show. The street’s signs were changed from Bingley Road to Strawberry Lane, which had ‘E1’ and ‘London Borough of Hackney’ written on it.

The gangster drama is set to be released on Paramount+ in 2023, and will feature star turns from actors James McArdle, Emun Elliot, Sarah Greene and Stephen Moyer.

The eight-part series is written by showrunner Michal Caleo and produced by Chapter One and Viacom International Studios.

Liverpool has become one of the most popular shooting locations for hit films and TV shows outside of London.

In recent years, Peaky Blinders, The Batman and Harry Potter-spinoff Fantastic Beasts have all used the city's iconic architecture as backdrops.
