Liverpool Champions League route clearer after massive Man United boost

Liverpool were handed yet another timely boost in their bid to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United lost 1-0 to West Ham thanks to Said Benrahma's first-half strike, with David De Gea's error proving pivotal as the Reds lost for the second time in four days.

With Newcastle United also losing earlier today against Arsenal at St James' Park, Jurgen Klopp's side are now just three points behind both the Red Devils and the Magpies, despite having played a game more.

Erik ten Hag's men failed to build any real momentum in the encounter and couldn't break down the Hammers' sturdy defence. West Ham are now seven points clear of the relegation places with three games left to go.

With everything still to play for in terms of the battle for a top-four finish, Liverpool have hit form at the best possible time and have now not tasted defeat since their 4-1 loss to Manchester City at the start of April.

The Reds also have arguably the favourable run-in with strugglers Leicester City and Nottingham Forest still to come, with Unai Emery's Aston Villa sandwiched in between the two clashes.

Manchester United remaining fixtures: Wolves (H), Bournemouth (A), Chelsea (H), Fulham (H).

Newcastle United remaining fixtures: Leeds (A), Brighton (H), Leicester (H), Chelsea (A).
