A three-day closure of Liverpool Central station has been cancelled.
The station was due to be closed from Sunday, November 6 to Wednesday, November 9, for work to prepare for Merseyrail to launch their new fleet of trains. However the planned engineering works have been postponed due to the three 24-hour national strikes recently announced by the RMT union.
The closure was to allow essential adjustments to be carried out on the tracks and lineside equipment to ensure the new trains, in an eight-car formation, will be able to serve the station. A future date for when the work will be carried out is yet to be announced.

Despite Merseyrail staff not taking part in the national industrial action, the engineering works were due to be carried out by National Rail staff. The strikes mean this is now no longer possible.
Network Rail maintenance employees who are RMT members will be taking industrial action from 2am on Saturday, November 5 to 1.59am on Sunday, November 6 and from from 2am on Monday, November 7 to 1.59am on Tuesday, November 8, and from 2am on Wednesday, November 9 to 1.59am on Thursday, November 10.
The cancellation of the works means that services will remain as normal throughout Sunday, November 6. But services will be affected on Saturday, November 5, Monday, November 7 and Wednesday, November 9, due to the RMT strikes.
