Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was seen clapping after Reds goalkeeper Alisson committed a game-changing error against Real Madrid.
The Brazilian international's misplaced clearance hit his compatriot Vinicius Junior and landed in the Liverpool net, helping the visitors go in level at half-time after trailing 2-0 inside the first quarter of an hour. The 2022 champions added three more goals within 25 minutes of the restart to all but book their place in the last eight.
Klopp spoke about the manner of his team's defeat after the game, admitting it would be a tall order for his side to overturn their three-goal deficit. At the time of the mistake, though, his reaction was rather different.
As Vinicius chased down a Joe Gomez back pass, he turned his back on the ball. However, Alisson's attempt to play the ball back in the direction of Gomez saw it cannon off the forward's heel and land in the net.
On the sidelines, Klopp could be seen attempting to encourage his players as they looked to respond to the setback. Alisson, meanwhile, was visibly frustrated as he muttered something to himself before the restart.
Liverpool could have found themselves behind at half-time, with Andy Robertson producing a big interception to deny Rodrygo as the youngster looked poised for a tap-in. It didn't matter, though, with the visitors the stronger in a second half which all but killed off the tie.
Liverpool had benefited from a goalkeeping error themselves to go 2-0 up, with Thibaut Courtois presenting the ball to top-scorer Mohamed Salah. However, Liverpool's manager described the visitors' equaliser as "slapstick" in his post-match comments.

The equaliser was a second of the night from Vinicius, while team-mate Karim Benzema also bagged a brace in the second half. In-between the pair of doubles, defender Eder Militao scored his first Champions League goal of the season less than two minutes into the second half.
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was on punditry duty and was watching on as Salah surpassed him to become the Reds' all-time leading European goalscorer. However, the midfielder - a Champions League winner in 2005 and finalist in 2007 - was also in the BT Sport studio to witness the dramatic comeback from a team which knows exactly how to win this tournament.
"Sometimes in football, you've got to hold your hands up and say the best team won," Gerrard admitted. "Liverpool were outclassed, Liverpool were dominated. They [Real Madrid] were better in most areas of the pitch, you'd have to say."
Liverpool will need an immediate reaction in the Premier League as they chase a top-four finish, the only thing which would qualify them for next season's Champions League barring a remarkable comeback in Madrid. They have four top-flight games to play before travelling to the Santiago Bernabeu, beginning with a weekend trip to Crystal Palace.
