Liverpool could be without midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for their midweek clash with Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg.
The former Gunners player had to come off in the Reds’ 3-0 win over Brentford on Sunday, going to ground in the latter stages of the match and having to be withdrawn.
After the game, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the 28-year-old had injured his ankle, but won’t know until later as to how long he will be sidelined for.
It means he could miss out on the semi-final against his former side on Thursday when the two sides meet.
Arsenal head into the second leg with home advantage and a resilient 0-0 draw brought back from Anfield in the first leg.
Granit Xhaka’s early red card for a last man challenge on Diogo Jota meant the Gunners were reduced to ten men for the majority of the match.
While they struggled to create anything, it was all about survival for Mikel Arteta and his men, who defended valiantly against a Liverpool team that struggled to break them down.
There are selection troubles for the second leg for the Spaniard though, with a number of players injured, away at AFCON and positive with Covid-19.
Those factors meant that the Premier League game against north London rivals Tottenham couldn’t go ahead on Sunday, perhaps to Arteta’s advantage if he can have a stronger squad and more rest time before facing Liverpool on Thursday.
Klopp and his side might be on the other side of that though, with their game on Sunday resulting in Oxlade-Chamberlain going off through injury.
The manager said: “It was something with the ankle, he rolled his ankle.
“Now we hope it’s nothing serious but we will get further or final information tomorrow.
“It’s absolutely too early [to tell the severity of the injury]. I have no idea, don’t know.”
It could mean that Liverpool are without a playmaker for the game and given his goalscoring antics against the Bees at the weekend, he could be a miss for the side.
