Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits there's an 'elephant in the room' after Graham Potter sacking

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reacted to the news of Graham Potter's sacking as Chelsea manager.

The Reds are back in Premier League action on Tuesday night as they face the Londoners at Stamford Bridge. It sees Liverpool resume their quest to finish in the top four.

Liverpool were beaten 4-1 by Manchester City at the weekend, while Chelsea lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa. The day after that result, it was announced that Potter had been sacked from his position as Chelsea manager.

Bruno Saltor will take interim charge of Chelsea against Liverpool. Klopp was asked about Potter’s dismissal, as well as the exit of former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City, in his press conference on Monday.

Klopp said: "What can I say about that? I think the elephant in the room is why I am still sitting here in this crazy world, last man standing."

He added: “I think both clubs are not in the spot they expect to be. I respect them a lot, I like both when I met them, really good people and fantastic managers, both of them but still things can go the wrong way and decision makers in the club think they have to change.

“I think we all accept this is part of the business.

“It is a strange week, (Antonio) Conte was last week, (Julian) Nagelsmann and now these two so the season gets in a decisive part and people are afraid of maybe not reaching their targets.

“You have to ask the decisive people but for all four I mentioned now their football managing future is still bright so it is not a disaster, just a situation they will not like.”

Klopp was also asked how he thinks Potter's exit will affect how he prepares the Liverpool squad to face Chelsea, and if he expects anything different.

“Maybe the normal effect after a manager leaves," said Klopp.

“The coaching staff will stay and we have not a real session between the last and the game tomorrow.

“We have a session but from a recovery point of view you cannot do any intense stuff so it is more talking, that’s what they will do, but I am pretty sure the Chelsea players want to show a reaction.

“I saw the Bayern Munich game against Dortmund, there was a reaction.

“But apart from that there is rotation a bit, N’Golo Kante is back, Mason (Mount) was injured and was back on the bench so line-up wise they could change.

“They change their system during the season, but we expect similar to the last games.”
