Liverpool 'best' Premier League referee revealed as unlikely Man City record emerges

Liverpool have won a huge 91% of the matches they have played when referee Chris Kavanagh has been in charge of them.

Using data provided by Statbunker, AceOdds have analysed the performance of Premier League referees over the previous 5 seasons. Data concerning specific clubs was used for referees who have officiated more than 5 games in the last 5 years.

And it is Kavanagh who comes out on top for the Reds. While Liverpool have also won 83% of the matches they have played in when Jon Moss has been in charge.

The Reds have also won between 60% and 75% of their matches when Kevin Friend, Stuart Attwell, Paul Tierney, Craig Pawson, Mike Dean, Anthony Taylor and Michael Oliver have been in charge. While the Reds have only won 58% of the matches they have played in when Martin Atkinson has been in charge.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Manchester City have never lost a game when refereed by Lee Mason. But West Ham have never won one under David Coote, and when Michael Oliver referees a game for Southampton they win more than any other team.

Manchester City were at one stage this season 12 points clear at the summit and the title race was threatening to become something of a precession for the current holders. Now, just a single point separates the Reds and Pep Guardiola's side ahead of the meeting between the two next month.
