Summary:

  • Israel told the US it had begun conducting limited ground operations inside Lebanon targeting Hezbollah, the US State Department said on Monday evening. Earlier Israel declared three communities along its northern border with Lebanon to be a “closed military zone”, restricting access to military forces only.
  • Lebanon's army is "repositioning and regrouping forces" away from the border with Israel in response to an apparently imminent Israeli ground invasion, a Lebanese military official told AFP.
  • United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon have been unable to conduct patrols because of the intensity of Israeli strikes and Hezbollah's rockets targeting Israel, a UN spokesman said.
  • Hezbollah deputy leader Naim Qassem on Monday said the group would appoint a new leader and continue the fight against Israel in his first speech since Hassan Nasrallah's killing.

Yesterday's key developments:

  • The Israeli military continued to strike Hezbollah targets in Lebanon on Sunday, saying it hit launchers aimed at Israel, a day after it announced the killing of the militant group's longtime leader Hassan Nasrallah. Lebanese stade media said an Israeli airstrike destroyed a home in a village in the northeast, killing at least 11 people.

  • Israel launched strikes at Houthi targets in Yemen after the Houthi militants fired missiles at Israel over the past two days. The Israeli military said in a statement that dozens of aircraft, including fighter jets, attacked power plants and a sea port at the Ras Issa and Hodeidah ports.

  • The Israeli military says it also killed Nabil Kaouk, the deputy head of Hezbollah's Central Council, in an airstrike. Hezbollah confirmed his death, making him the seventh senior Hezbollah leader slain in Israeli strikes in a little over a week.
