LIVE: Black Friday Deals 2023 – early deals on Ninja, KitchenAid, and Dyson

An image showing the products available in Black Friday.

Black Friday is already here. It doesn't happen officially until the Friday after Thanksgiving next week, but huge retailers like Amazon and Walmart already have deals live.

I've been a product tester for years. I've tried everything from air fryers and vacuums to alarm clocks, exercise bikes, and even dog toys. I have hands-on experience with dozens of products and I've covered Black Friday for years, so I know which deals represent actual value and which aren't worth your time. We track prices throughout the year, so we know which too-good-to-be-true deal is a misrepresentation and which are actually worth your money.

I am genuinely impressed with a lot of the deals this year. I've worked plenty of Black Fridays where the deals are mediocre and sure, you can grab $50 off an $800 coffee maker, but that's about it. This year, I've already seen drops of hundreds of dollars on tested vacuums and air fryers.

My favorite so far? A tested vacuum for $99. I use it at home and while it's definitely not the greatest in the world, it does the job and saves you $200 for spending on gifts for the holidays.

However, as always, a word of warning about mattress sales. You'll see some huge discounts, but those prices aren't always genuine. Some mattress companies run 'sales' almost every day of the year, so the deals aren't good value.

Black Friday FAQs

What is Black Friday?

A tradition in the United States since the 1950s, Black Friday is the biggest sales weekend of the year, starting the day after Thanksgiving. It officially kicks off the holiday shopping sales and the countdown to Christmas and Hannukah. You can shop everything from appliances to décor to furniture, and there's plenty of savings on home tech like TVs and smart speakers. This year, Black Friday falls on Friday, Nov. 24th, but deals are starting earlier than ever, so you don't have to wait until Black Friday to start saving.

What is Cyber Monday?

Cyber Monday is just the Monday following Black Friday. It sees big discounts on a wide range of tech products following the Black Friday rush on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This year, Cyber Monday falls on November 27th.

When is Black Friday?

This year, Black Friday falls on Friday, Nov. 24th, but deals are starting earlier than ever, so you don't have to wait until Black Friday to start saving.

Is Black Friday the best day to shop?

It depends, which is one of the reasons we give it so much coverage. The last few years have seen deals drop almost at random throughout November, so while Black Friday itself is still a big deal, you can grab good deals on Cyber Monday too – or even just on a random Tuesday.

Are Black Friday deals worth it?

In recent years, we've spotted everything from mattresses to furniture, and yes, even coffee machines marked down nearly half price.

That says, it pays to be wary.  A lot of the products sold on Black Friday are simply retailers clearing out old stock. Buying into older technology clearly has its setbacks in terms of compatibility down the line. But if you don't pride yourself as an early adopter or, for example, are looking for a second or third TV for a kitchen or bedroom, there's no harm in going for a slightly earlier-generation model.

A greater danger is that some retailers trick consumers by increasing the prices of items due to go into the sale days or weeks beforehand so that the discounts they offer seem more impressive on the day.

The best approach is to make a list of potential purchases beforehand. Read online reviews and make a careful note of  exactly what you want by colors, styles and features. Once you've got the model numbers, stick to your list. Compromising on what you want guarantees buyer's remorse, and there's always the chance that a price could go lower if it isn't as low as you'd like.

Will my Black Friday purchases arrive by Christmas?

The short answer: read the fine print. Retailers like Walmart, Amazon, and Target offer everything from two-day to overnight shipping. Still, but due to the high demand for orders, you never know. It's better to always err on the side of caution and double, if not triple check.
