LIV Golf wag Ashley Perez aimed a dig at the partners of PGA Tour stars Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, as the sport’s civil war took an unlikely turn. Perez made the controversial move to LIV earlier this summer alongside some of golf’s biggest names.
Perez has earned an eye-watering £2.3 million in just three events since joining the Saudi-backed series, despite having a tournament-high finish of 15th. The dispute between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour has dominated the sport in recent months, with the latest chapter coming between the wives and girlfriends of the rival players.
PGA Tour stars Cantlay and Schauffele were seen enjoying their post-season by holidaying with their partners Nikki and Maya in Napa, California.
Cantlay’s partner Nikki shared a series of images of the two couples enjoying their time away in the wine country. Perez’s wife Ashley though seemed less than impressed, and fired a dig at the two couples on social media.
Nikki’s images were shared by Golf.com, and Ashley quickly jumped in the comments to write: “I'm sorry. That doesn't look like fun.... at all,” along with a snoring emoji, before quickly deleting her jibe.
The war of words between the two sides of golf’s civil war did not just take place on social media over the past week, with plenty of controversy coming out of the DP World Tour’s flagship event at the BMW PGA Championship. The tournament saw the return of 18 LIV golfers, and tensions between the two sides were unsurprisingly high throughout.
So much so that eventual champion Shane Lowry took aim at the Saudi defectors whilst delivering his winning speech on Sunday. He said : “I’m the happiest man in the world right now. I love it here and I’ve contended in the past.
