LIV Golf’s Joaquin Niemann is now in three of the four majors this season, having received a special invitation to the PGA Championship.
Sports Illustrated confirmed the invitation, which Niemann himself mentioned in an interview Monday with golfwrx.com. On Sunday in Saudi Arabia he won on LIV Golf for the second time in 2024.
Two weeks ago Niemann received a special invitation to the Masters, and qualified for the British Open by winning the Australian Open in December. He told golfwrx.com that he would also try to qualify for the U.S. Open.
The PGA Championship, to be held May 16-19 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., typically invites the top 100 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Niemann is No. 72 but receives no ranking points for his performances on LIV Golf. He could earn points for high finishes in the Masters and the PGA, which could earn him an exemption to the U.S. Open, whose OWGR cutoff is the top 60.
