A litter of adorable kittens have been found dumped in a metal cage in Scots woods.
The shocking discovery was made by a member of the public near Drumshoreland Road in Pumpherston, West Lothian, on November 1. After taking the trio of 10-week-old animals home, the concerned local reported the incident to the Scottish SPCA.
The animal welfare charity said that although the kittens were distressed, they were unharmed from the incident. Officers have hit out at those responsible for abandoning the cats - stating it is 'not the right way' to give up an animal you can no longer care for.
They are appealing to the public for information.
SSPCA inspector, Stuart Murray, said, “The kittens are approximately 10-weeks-old and were found by a passing member of the public inside a cage abandoned in local woods. The cage was large and appears undamaged and, luckily for the kittens, it looks as though it hadn’t been there long enough to be exposed to the elements.
“The kittens were understandably distressed but they had no signs of injuries. We understand that people’s circumstances can change, but this is not the right way to give up an animal if you can no longer care for them.
“They are now at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres where they will receive the care they need. If anyone recognises these kittens or has any information, we would ask that they contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
