List of Bristol's most appealing features as local 'falls out of love with city'

When you’ve been living in the same place for many years, it can be easy to get bored of the views and attractions. These people can find life in the area they live in has become too much of a repetitive cycle so they fall out of love with their hometown.

This is the case for one Reddit user who recently shared their dilemma on the platform. The post said: “I’ve fallen out of love with Bristol for various reasons. Does anyone want to tell me why they think it’s awesome? I’m hoping to challenge my current cynical views a little.”

Despite the post only going up recently, there are over 100 replies in the comments section, most offering different words of advice and some even claiming to be in agreement.

One commenter, who had much to say on why Bristol was so great, said: “I can think of a number of reasons off the top of my head. It's the perfect size city to access on foot or bike, with plenty to do in close proximity. There are plenty of distinct areas, for example Clifton, St Werburghs, Stokes Croft all have their own character. Great greenspace that is readily accessible, for example Clifton Downs, Ashton Court and Blaise Castle.

"A strong environmental ethos amongst many in the city. Lots of great craft beers and a good music scene, particularly drum and bass, jungle.”

Another, who also loves what the city has to offer, wrote: “We have community, and opportunity and lots of really interesting nice cool people. Lots of outdoor spaces to hang out in, good pubs and restaurants, theatre, culture, art.”

A third also said: “I think Bristol is the perfect middle ground as a city. Lots going on and a number of distinct areas, whilst not being too busy (relatively speaking) and quite chilled out as a city. You are also close to the countryside, sea etc.”

Ohers suggested that if the OP was feeling like they weren’t loving Bristol anymore, then maybe a move elsewhere may help.

A commenter said: “If you are young with few commitments and you’re not enjoying it here I can recommend trying another city for a few years. If you start missing it, come back. Bristol is great, but it’s not for everyone and there are many other great cities in the UK.”
